No Warranty — “As Is”
OutsideAtlas (the “site”) is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We make no guarantee that information on the site is current, complete, or correct. Trail mileage, elevation, difficulty, surface, access rules, photos, and weather forecasts are aggregated from public sources (see Data Sources) and may be wrong, outdated, or missing critical details.
Outdoor Safety Disclaimer
Hiking, backpacking, camping, climbing, and related outdoor activities carry inherent risks including serious injury or death. You are solely responsible for evaluating risk and your own ability before, during, and after any trip. Conditions on the ground can change suddenly due to weather, fire, washouts, wildlife, closures, or other factors not captured here.
Before any trip you should:
- Verify current status with the official land manager (USFS, BLM, NPS, state park system, etc.).
- Check the most recent weather forecast.
- Carry the 10 essentials and know how to use them.
- Tell someone your plan and expected return time.
- Turn back if anything — weather, fitness, gear — says you should.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OutsideAtlas, its operators, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the site — including without limitation personal injury, death, property damage, lost data, or business loss.
This limitation applies whether the claim is in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or otherwise, even if OutsideAtlas has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Third-Party Links
We link to OpenStreetMap, Recreation.gov, NPS, USFS, BLM, and other external sites. We do not control these sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices, or availability. Visiting a linked site is at your own risk.
Affiliate & Sponsorship Disclosure
OutsideAtlas earns revenue primarily through display ads (Google AdSense). We may occasionally accept paid sponsorships for trail guides or gear lists — when we do, the content will be clearly labeled. We do not earn commissions on Recreation.gov reservations, OpenStreetMap traffic, or official park pages. Editorial decisions (which trails to list, how to rate difficulty) are independent of any sponsor relationships.
Data Accuracy
See our dedicated Data Sources page for a full breakdown of where each piece of information comes from, license terms, and refresh cadence. Our Methodology page documents the exact derivation rules for classifications like trail difficulty.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
