From the junction of Granite Creek to the lakes, the terrain becomes very steep. The lakes are nestled in a secluded cirque of the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness and provide the opportunity for solitude and beautiful scenery.

How to Get There

From Carbondale travel east on Hwy 82 to Basalt. Turn left at the stoplight and travel 31 miles up the Fryingpan River road. Turn right on the Fryingpan Ranch road (Nast Site). Parking is provided at the trailhead bulletin board just as you cross the bridge. Walk down the road to the Fryingpan Ranch. The trail starts on your left and just right of the river.
