About Loco Lagoon

Loco Lagoon, formerly known as Conoco Lake, is a three-acre freshwater pond providing habitat for wildlife and respite for humans in the middle of a vast forest of pumpjacks. The site was created in 1990 through a cooperative agreement between BLM and Conoco, Inc, with Conoco originally providing the fresh water and NM Department of Game and Fish stocking the lake with fish five times a year. The pond provides habitat for a variety of wildlife including bass, catfish, mule deer, ducks and other birds, while providing bird watching and picnicking for visitors.

How to Get There

From Maljamar, New Mexico head south on Maljamar Road toward Sand Road. Follow Maljamar Road for 3.3 miles before turning left onto an unmarked road with a black pumpjack next to it. Follow the unmarked two track for .6 miles to arrive at the backside of Loco Lagoon
