About Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Museum

"It's all here: the story of our time with the bark off. This Library will show the facts, not just the joy and triumphs, but the sorrow and failures, too." This is how LBJ, 36th President of the United States, wanted the records of his life and his presidency to be viewed by the public. At the museum you can relive all the ups and downs of Johnson's life and presidency-from love letters exchanged with Lady Bird to exotic gifts bestowed by visiting heads of state to daily diary entries that show the President trying to lead a nation on the brink of war. Take a walk through history in the "America: 1908-1973" exhibit, and experience the presidency from the perspective of 1968 with a look at a 1968 presidential limo and a replica of LBJ's Oval Office. In addition to its permanent exhibit, the museum also hosts traveling exhibits on a variety of subjects. The LBJ Library holds over 47 million documents that tell the story of America from the Great Depression through the turbulent 1960s. Thousands of photographs, recordings, and motion picture images capture the poignancy of these times. The LBJ Library and Museum is located on the University of Texas campus at Red River Street (one block west of I-35) between Martin Luther King Blvd. and 26th Street.
