About Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery

Construction of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery took place from 1938 to 1940 on 170 acres of Icicle Valley land, two miles south of the town of Leavenworth. The hatchery was the first fish mitigation facility built for Grand Coulee Dam. In 1998, the hatchery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery has raised a variety of species, including spring and summer Chinook salmon, coho salmon, steelhead, and kokanee. Since 1974, spring Chinook salmon have been the priority species raised to support sport, tribal, and commercial fisheries in the Pacific Ocean, Columbia River, and Icicle Creek.

On the west end of Leavenworth, just off of US Highway 2, look for Icicle Road. Turn south onto Icicle Road and follow the signs to the hatchery. Welcome!
